A funeral image is the defining visual element of any memorial service — the portrait that greets visitors, represents your loved one at their best, and carries the memory of the service long after the flowers have faded. Funeral Portraits combines advanced digital enhancement techniques with the artistry of our experienced portrait team to create stunning funeral images from any photo you provide.
The difference between an amateur print and a professionally produced funeral image is immediately visible. An amateur print enlarges the original photo as-is — every imperfection, every harsh shadow, every distracting background element is magnified along with the subject. A professionally enhanced funeral image, by contrast, puts the subject at the center, eliminates distractions, corrects color and lighting, and places the portrait within a composed background that complements the mood of the service.
Professional digital enhancement also allows us to work with photos that would be unusable with a standard print-and-ship service. A group photo where your loved one is partially obscured can be isolated and completed. A low-resolution social-media image can be upscaled and sharpened. A thirty-year-old photograph with fading and surface damage can be restored to a condition that looks better than the original print. These capabilities make it possible for families to use the best likeness they have — not merely the most convenient digital file.
Our artists begin with your source image and evaluate it for resolution, color balance, exposure, and any damage or distracting elements. They then work through a systematic enhancement process:
After this process, the image is placed within one of our 150+ background themes and composed as a print-ready file. You receive a digital proof for your approval before anything goes to press.
Background selection is one of the most meaningful choices in creating a funeral image. The background sets the emotional tone of the portrait — a soft floral background speaks to a gentle, feminine personality; a mountain landscape to someone who loved the outdoors; a patriotic theme to a veteran; a cross or religious imagery to a person of faith.
Our background library contains more than 150 themes across multiple categories. Nature and florals include roses, lilies, lavender fields, woodland scenes, ocean sunsets, and mountain vistas. Religious themes include traditional cross designs, stained glass patterns, and imagery from multiple faith traditions. We also offer patriotic and military backgrounds, sports and hobby themes, and elegant neutral designs that work well in any setting.
You choose the background during checkout by browsing thumbnail previews on our order page. If a family member is handling the order and unsure which theme the deceased would have preferred, we recommend asking other family members — the choice often sparks a meaningful conversation about the person's interests and values.
Every funeral image we produce is printed on professional-grade canvas using archival inks. Canvas is the preferred medium for funeral display because it is more durable than paper, more visually impressive when enlarged, and more suitable as a long-term keepsake. Unlike paper prints, canvas does not develop the reflective glare that makes photographs difficult to view in low light or at an angle.
Available sizes include 11" × 14", 16" × 20", 20" × 24", 20" × 30", and 24" × 36". For most funeral services, the 16" × 20" is the standard recommendation — it is large enough to be seen across a room and compact enough to fit comfortably on a standard easel. Larger sizes are available for venues where greater visual impact is needed.
Framing options are available in eight styles ranging from dark walnut and mocha brown to silver and white. Frames ship pre-assembled around the stretched canvas — simply remove from the shipping box and display. Details and pricing for all options are on our prices page.
Funeral arrangements move quickly, and our production process is designed to match that urgency. Orders placed before noon Eastern time ship the same business day. Overnight air delivery is standard for time-sensitive orders. For families who discover they need a funeral image with less than 24 hours before the service, contact our team directly — we will work with you on the timeline and be honest about what is achievable.
Orders are tracked from submission through delivery, and tracking information is emailed as soon as the label is created. Our support team is available to answer questions about your order at any point in the process.
A well-made funeral image outlasts the service itself. Families frequently display the portrait in their home as a permanent reminder of their loved one. Canvas gallery wraps hang cleanly on any wall using a standard nail — no special hardware needed. For families who want additional display options after the service, we offer a range of accessories including smaller tribute prints that can be placed in guest rooms, on bookshelves, or given to other family members.
If you need additional copies of the same image — for siblings, for the obituary program, or for a memorial website — we can reproduce the enhanced file in any size or format. Contact our team after your order is placed to discuss additional copies.
